Rony Marwan, MD, FACS, FAAP is the Division Chief of Pediatric General, Thoracic and Fetal Surgery, Surgical
Director of MU Healthcare Fetal Care Program and an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Missouri.
He completed his internship at Vanderbilt University, general surgery residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 2011, Surgical CriJcal
Care training at Children’s Mercy Hospital - University of Missouri Kansas City, and Pediatric Surgery training at Children’s of Alabama. He then joined the faculty at the University of Colorado Children’s Hospital Colorado in 2014. He was recruited to the University of Missouri in 2021 where he assumed numerous roles including Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity in the Department of Surgery, Vice Chair of the Faculty Affairs Council of the University of Missouri School of Medicine, and Surgical Director of the Fetal Care Program. To complement his clinical and fetal interests, he has developed a clinical, translaJonal, and basic science research program. The long-term goal of his research program focuses on understanding the mechanisms of stretch
induced pulmonary epithelial and vascular growth and development of innovaJve bioengineering approaches for fetal repair of neural tube defects. Dr. Marwan’s research program has been funded by the Fetal Health FoundaJon, Children’s Hospital Colorado FoundaJon, and the AssociaJon of Academic Surgeons. Dr. Marwan has developed a record of service with membership and leadership responsibiliJes locally and naJonally including Chair of the Fetal
Diagnosis and Therapy CommiTee of the American Pediatric Surgery AssociaJon, American Academy of Pediatrics SecJon on Surgery, and AssociaJon of Academic Surgeons. He is a celebrated teacher with a passion for humanism and have been inducted to the Gold Humanism Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society at the University of Missouri
