I am Rebeca Figueira, a registered nurse who has chosen to pursue an academic career to deepen my understanding of fetal and neonatal medicine. Currently, I am a research fellow at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Canada. My work focuses on the pathomechanisms of pulmonary vascular remodeling associated with congenital diaphragmatic hernia and other fetal conditions, such as oligohydramnios. Through bench-side research, I aim to contribute to advances in the care, management, and treatment of fetuses and neonates with pulmonary hypoplasia and persistent pulmonary hypertension.
