John B. Rode, MD, is a general surgery resident at Northwestern University and a current pediatric surgery research fellow at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago under the mentorship of Thomas Inge, MD, PhD, and Justin Ryder, PhD. Dr. Rode’s primary research interests include pediatric surgical outcomes, with a particular focus on adolescent metabolic and bariatric surgery. Originally from Philadelphia, he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and economics from Connecticut College. After serving as a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer from 2010 to 2016, he transitioned to a career in medicine, completing Bryn Mawr College’s Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Medical Program before attending the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. At Geisel, he became involved in surgical outcomes research within the departments of orthopedic and vascular surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He aspires to continue his career as a surgeon-scientist in the field of pediatric surgery. Outside of the hospital and lab, John enjoys hiking and snorkeling with his wife and is an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
