John Wiersch, MD is a pediatric surgeon that joined Children’s Hospital Colorado and the University of Colorado Department of Surgery in 2022. Dr. Wiersch completed his general surgery residency at UT San Antonio and fellowships at Children’s Hospital Colorado and Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, all of which are pediatric burn centers. At Children’s Hospital Colorado, he practices general pediatric surgery with a specialty focus in pediatric burn surgery. He has been heavily involved in caring for burned children for the past six years. Dr. Wiersch is an instructor in advanced trauma life support as well as advanced burn life support and enjoys sharing information about these important aspects of pediatric care with providers of all backgrounds. At Children’s Hospital Colorado, he has been the medical director of the burn program since July 2023 and the associate trauma medical director since October 2024. In addition to his work caring for burn and trauma injured children, his interests include chest wall deformities, neonatal surgery, and critical care.
