Reto Baertschiger is a pediatric surgeon and assistant professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Reto received his medical degree at University of Lausanne and his PhD at University of Geneve, both in Switzerland. He trained in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery at the IU School of Medicine and Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana from 2008 until 2015. He worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center from 2015 until 2019 as a pediatric surgeon and pediatric trauma medical director. He moved to Toronto for four years where he worked at the Hospital for Sick Children and University of Toronto as a surgeon scientist. In May 2023, he returned to DHMC and the Children’s Hospital. He focuses clinically on general pediatric surgery and has a special interest in pediatric surgical oncology, liver and rare tumors, as well as pediatric trauma care. He more recently became involved in Quality Improvement and is currently the Director for Quaity of the Pediatirc Surgical Services. He is also coaching residents and fellows, and advises Medical Students at Geisel School of Medicine as Senior Career Advisor. He is also part of peer support groups for pediatric surgeons both locally and nationally.
