Dr. Marietta Jank is a pediatric surgery resident and clinician-scientist at the University Medical Centre Mannheim – Heidelberg University, Germany, with a strong interest in combining clinical practice and translational research. Dr. Jank obtained a medical degree with honors and completed clinical internships in South Africa, Switzerland and Germany, gaining early exposure to international healthcare systems. She also obtained a magna cum laude medical doctorate in basic science, supported by competitive scholarships. Following medical school, Dr. Jank pursued pediatric surgery residency and participated in multicenter national and international studies. Beyond research, Dr. Jank has continuously been actively involved in medical education at Heidelberg University. Supported by the Walter Benjamin scholarship, Dr. Jank pursued a postdoctoral research fellowship with Dr. Keijzer at the University of Manitoba, Canada. Her research projects have been recognized with numerous awards for research excellence, including the Prem Puri Prize for Basic Science Research, Best Basic Science/Innovation Presentation and Gold Award for Postdocs - Child Health Research Days. In future, Dr. Jank aims to integrate clinical knowledge and research advancements to enhance pediatric surgical care and long-term patient outcomes.
