Dr. Kathleen van Leeuwen is the Associate Surgeon-in-Chief at Phoenix Children's and founded and serves as co-director of the Phoenix Children’s Center for Fetal and Neonatal Care. Dr. van Leeuwen oversees the team of surgeons and neonatologists in the treatment of babies with congenital problems and ensures the smooth transition of infants to pediatric subspecialists. Her research interests in this area involve creation of evidence-based pathways for congenital diagnoses.
She also is the director of the Reproductive Anomalies/Differences of Sex Development Clinic at PCH. Her research interests in this area started during her training under Dr. Arnold Coran and Dr. Daniel Teitelbaum at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Work currently includes implementing shared decision making tools to optimize outcomes in these complex patients.
She is also overseeing new physician services as Phoenix Children’s expands with new facilities in the East and West Valley areas of metropolitan Phoenix.
