Shahyan Rehman, MD is a general surgery resident at Yale New Haven Hospital. He graduated from the University of Rochester with a dual degree (BA/BS) in Neuroscience and Religion with Highest Distinction. He obtained his M.D. with Distinction in Research from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. As a medical student, he co-founded the Rutgers RWJMS chapter of Global Surgery Student Alliance (GSSA) and collaborated with partners from Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia on surgical systems strengthening research through Rutgers Global Surgery. He is currently a Board of Trustees member of GSSA. He was selected to spend a year between his third and fourth year of medical school at the National Institutes of Health through the NIH Medical Research Scholars Program. During this time in the Hernandez Lab, he had the opportunity to use ex vivo human tissue platforms to study the tumor microenvironment. As a resident at Yale, he discovered a passion for pediatric surgery. As a member of the Vasquez Lab, he is exploring novel therapeutic approaches to pediatric extracranial solid tumors. He plans to pursue a career as an academic pediatric surgeon with a special interest in pediatric surgical oncology.
